A Remarkable Life, A Lasting Legacy

We remember a founding member of the Minnesota Land Trust, Charles Robert Binger, who died August 14 at the age of 93. Bob lead a remarkable life; he served with Admiral Chester Nimitz during WWII and participated in the landing at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He also saw action during the Korean War at Inchon, South Korea.

He made five sled trips to the Canadian Arctic in the mid 1960’s and maintained a lifelong interest in the Inuit people he encountered there. Bob was recognized in the 1970’s by the Explorers Club of New York for those expeditions.

During a distinguished career in private industry, Bob actively led and advised a number of non-profit organizations, including the Washington County Land Trust, the predecessor to the Minnesota Land Trust.

Our neighbors at Spirit Mountain and their work towards sustainability

We were delighted to see an article recently in the Duluth News Tribune about Spirit Mountain’s efforts towards sustainability. We're neighbors: our Radio Tower Bay restoration project on the St. Louis River sits almost directly below it. And, because Spirit Mountain Chalet is the host site of our 2012 Treasured Places celebration on September 8, we’ll enjoy our picnic lunch even more knowing that it will be prepared and served with sustainable practices in mind. Be sure to mark your calendar for our fun and informative event, which includes a boat tour of the St. Louis River and a hike on the Superior Hiking Trail. Better yet, click on the link directly to the right and sign up today!
