The peregrines are fledging...

Adult peregrine, photo by Ned DaytonIt was only a few weeks ago that these chicks hatched. Now they're leaving the nest for short periods of time, returning to the nest to grab a meal with the help of their parents. After about a month, they will enter their "juvenile" stage and will be totally independent of their parents.  With only a 20% survival rate, this year's brood may not make it beyond the juvenile stage into adulthood (year 2 and beyond).

Land conservation scored a small victory yesterday! Associate Director Sarah Strommen spent the day yesterday at an important LCCMR (Legislative- Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources) meeting that will determine future funding.
