Filling the gap in Avon Hills!

We are excited to announce a new conservation easement in the Avon Hills area of Stearns County that completes a gap between the Partch Woods Scientific and Natural Area and the Saint Wendell Tamarack Bog SNA.

These kinds of projects are such great illustrations of why private land conservation makes such good sense.

The landowners, John and Barbara Riesner, have owned this land since 1969. Putting a conservation easement on their property allows them to maintain their ownership and also keep the land the way it is now.

And that way is wooded, swampy, undeveloped. A perfect connection between the public land that surrounds it.

In combination with the SNAs and nearly one hundred acres of land less than half a mile away that is already conserved by families through the Minnesota Land Trust, this project brings together a complex of protected land that totals well over one thousand acres.

Wildlife, including short eared owls, Blanding's turtles and and American bittern are found on the property today and can continue to thrive long into the future.

Funding for the acquisition of this easement has been provided by the Minnesota Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund as recommended by the Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources.
