Restoring Oak Woodlands

Watch the webinar online today:

Oak savanna used to dominate Southeast Minnesota. A prairie grassland punctuated by clusters of hearty bur oak trees, the land was habitat for deer, red headed woodpeckers, and the rusty patched bumblebee among others. As development expanded and prairie fires became a thing of the past, so did the savanna. Today less than 1% of that original oak savanna remains in widely scattered remnants. Even if we protect all of that, it won't be enough.

But we have a unique opportunity to bring back our oak savannas, and restore lost connections for the species that rely on it.

This webinar recording lays out our ambitious plans to restore oak savannas and other important habitats in Southeast Minnesota. We also do a deeper dive into how we will work with both public and private landowners to deliver restoration work, including new state grant opportunities that we can leverage.
