Lake Superior Land Trust Partnership

Since January 2002 the Minnesota Land Trust has been meeting with 20 other conservation organizations from around Lake Superior (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Ontario) to explore the possibility of an international conservation partnership focused on the world's greatest lake. The groups directly involved are the nonprofit land trusts and conservancies that operate in the basin, with outreach to the various government agencies involved in conservation issues.

The goal of the Lake Superior Land Trust Partnership is to protect our shared resource, the Lake Superior Basin, by strengthening the capacity and coordination of the land trust community to:

  • Identify and actively protect critical areas around the basin
  • Leverage resources for increased land protection
  • Facilitate land protection information and data among public and private organizations
  • Communicate the benefits of land conservation and foster awareness of conservation options
  • Create mechanisms to share land trust talents, tools and knowledge in ways that benefit all member organizations
  • Undertake projects in areas not served by a land trust
