Shoreline, Habitat, Scenic View

Bob and Rosemary Geist wanted to ensure that their children, grandchildren, and neighbors could enjoy the same views, fish the same waters, and walk amongst the towering white pines that they’ve enjoyed for years. They wanted their property to always remain what it is today: a wild and natural place. In December they donated a conservation easement to the Minnesota Land Trust, forever protecting their property for future generations to enjoy.

This project is the 12th completed by the Minnesota Land Trust in Crow Wing County. Development is increasing rapidly on Island Lake, and now the beautiful, forested shoreline of the protected land will stay that way, providing a lovely view for all the users of the lake. In addition, the lake is within the Mississippi Flyway and provides critical habitat to migrating and nesting waterfowl. This project is an excellent demonstration of the role that private landowners play in protecting Minnesota's remaining natural areas.

Thanks to the Geist's vision, this Island Lake jewel will always remain wild and natural.
