Protected wetlands in Pine County
We hear a lot these days about the loss of wetlands in Minnesota and the resulting adverse effects on water quality and wildlife populations.  This 240-acre easement in Pine County includes 58 acres of that precious commodity.
Situated on Rock Lake, the easement also protects about one-and-one-half miles of the lakeshore plus another one-third mile along Rock Creek.  The property, a working dairy farm, is a mosaic of habitat types: permanent wetlands, both lake and stream shoreline, woodlands, grasslands, and open fields.  This diversity of habitat supports a wide variety of  fish, animals and plants—ever more important in view of the rapid development in the area.
