Red Wing - Bay Point Park

May 2011 -- Congratulations to the City of Red Wing for protecting more than 200 acres of land on the Mississippi River and Hay Creek. The permanent protection of Bay Point Park will ensure that riverfront access for recreation, wildlife habitat and current city purposes is maintained and balanced for future use.

The conservation easement permanently protects over 8,900 feet of Mississippi River shoreline, 5,600 feet of shoreline along Hay Creek and 2,400 feet of Pottery Pond shoreline. This new project adds of the existing wildlife complex including an adjacent 2,800 acres of wildlife preserve owned and managed by the Red Wing Wildlife League (also protected by a conservation easement held by the Land Trust).

Red Wing residents Evan Brown, Ken Johnson, and Michelle and Rob Meyer were pleased with the news of that the project was completed.  “Many people have worked to protect the waterfront for the generations that come after us. Red Wing’s tradition has always been to look forward,” said Evan Brown. “Barn Bluff, Memorial Park and Covill Park were given to the City with restrictions to permanently preserve them and it’s great to see the City continue that tradition.”
